THE ANNUAL MALL CHRISTMAS LUNCH

One of our major malls puts on a free lunch for seniors each year. Now this is one of the Micro Manager favorite events. Not so much for me.

The micro manager likes to get to the mall shortly after 9:30 AM for lunch! Why? At that time the Micro Manager can line up for a free bag full of trash. (I'm not very nice am I?) The gift bag for the Micro manager is a big deal. You get the bag and lots of stuff inside. Well, let see. There's a coupon to get your picture taken with Santa. She can't wait to run over and get the picture taken. What else afghan, calendar, box of Kleenex, some other coupons and  candy and chocolates.

Then there's the lunch. You line up with 300 seniors and slowly move through the line to get your soup, sandwiches, juice, coffee  and cookies. The lunch is a good deal. To be honest, I didn't line up. The Micro Manager went through with two plates. I held the table down as I had to make sure somebody didn't take off with the goody bag.

What did I do when the Micro manager was having so much fun? I read the paper, did the puzzles and played games on the ipad!

I don't like malls much. Or crowds much when I don't know anybody. I like crowds if I know the people.

Oh yes, the Micro manager had a little shopping to do.

So this was my stressful day.

I know I'll get a lot of sympathy for this whine!

  1. I don't like malls much either, but I went today because Mrs. Chatterbox insisted, saying it would put me in the Christmas spirit. It didn't, but she did buy me lunch.

    1. Yes, one has to go shopping once in a while.

  2. Bah humbug! LOL. I'm glad you held down the chair and watched the goodie bag. Those things are important. I'm glad too that the micro manager looks forward to these luncheons. It's always nice to have something to look forward to doing. We have a small mall where I live and they do a similar thing but so far I've never attended. I haven't popped by on those days either as I'm sure it gets pretty crowded and though I love these kind of get togethers I do not like crowds much. I hope you are recovered from your stressful day and that you will enjoy the season ahead.

  3. Well, at least you showed up, and she didn't have to go alone - sort of.

    1. I'm afraid if I go with her I'll throw her off her game so it's best I leave her alone.

  4. O dear, I can imagine your aversion. It sounds not so nice to be in such a crowd for something free, you can have at home too...

    1. I guess I'm picky with my crowds. Some I like and others I don't like.

  5. Ha! Well, that doesn't sound TOO terrible, and I love the micromanager's Santa photo! She's in the spirit! Good for her.

  7. I think it's lovely that you went along, even though you didn't much care for it. You told the story well, and she was lucky to have you along to hold the table in the crowds. I avoid the mall during the Christmas season and these days do most of my shopping online. :-)

  8. I think you're just jealous because the Micromanager got her photo taken with Santa instead of you! Haha! I understand the lure of a free lunch that you did not have to cook or clean up after and it was nice of you to come along and hold the table and goody bag while she stood in line and got your lunch. I've never heard of a mall that did such a nice thing for seniors. Ours just takes our money!

    1. Hey, with my long white beard I am Santa. It's funny how the little kids think I'm Santa!

  9. I love your Micromanager. She sounds like a lot of fun. I’d go too and get that goodie bag just for the fun of it. I’ll bet you secretly had fun too. I wish our malls would do something like that.

  10. Just as long as you're not going into a mall on the 24th of December at three in the afternoon.

  12. You're a good husband to go with her even if you don't enjoy it as much as she does. My husband doesn't like the mall, either. I have to be really desperate to ask him to accompany me :)

  14. Who is that beardie fellow with his arm wrapped round The Micro Manager? Or is it you in disguise?

  15. You've got the best of both worlds: You're not a micro manager, you are married to a micro manager!

  16. Hi Red, Love this post. I really do despise going to the mall. You are mighty kind to go with the Mrs. and hold down the dining spot. Glad you are done with this for the year! :-) Best regards from Seattle!
